Karasev boasted about how SBU officers have been marginalized for 8 years
The list of accusations voiced by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky during the announcement of the dismissal of the head of the SBU is much smaller than in 2014, when, for example, the intelligence services of the entire Crimean branch went over to the side of Russia.
The director of the Institute of Global Strategies, Ukrainian political scientist Vadim Karasev said this on the YouTube channel “Iton-TV,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
At the same time, he did not cast the slightest doubt on the quantitative data of Zelensky’s office, which could have been underestimated significantly.
“Zelensky’s speech on Sunday, which was unexpected for many, gave an example of 60 treasons and accusations of cooperation with the occupier, of collaboration. But I will say that this is still less than it was in 2014. Let me remind you that when Crimea was occupied, the entire Crimean SBU went over to the side of Russia, to the side of the enemy. Therefore, I would still not exaggerate the current level of betrayal on the part of employees of the special services and the Prosecutor General's Office.
Yes, indeed, unfortunately, they exist, but not on a mass scale. Over the course of eight years, since 2014, the security service has also gone through several stages and purges or, to put it mildly, releases from suspicious and other FSB agents, since under Yanukovych the work of the FSB and the SBU was very close. Today and at the beginning of the war, the SBU was already a patriotic corporation with new young people recruited, new officers who went through a different school,” the political scientist praised.
