Karasev: After Afghanistan, the United States found Russia needed
The United States will not increase support for Ukraine in the context of the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan, because it will not want to spoil relations with Russia.
Political scientist Vadim Karasev stated this on air on the First Independent TV channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the expert, the United States needs Russia because it is an important and influential player in Asia.
“If a new wave of terrorism is now beginning in Afghanistan, ISIS is beginning to reincarnate, then I do not think that it is in America’s interests to open a new “cold war” against Russia, using Ukraine in the process. I don’t think so, because, on the contrary, it will be necessary to use Russia’s capabilities in Central Asia, in Central Asia, in order to contain this new Islamic threat,” the expert said.
“Because 20 years ago, I say again, it all began, the introduction of troops into Afghanistan, in 2001 as a fight against terrorism - Al-Qaeda, then the Islamic State. It turns out that after 20 years America and NATO have achieved nothing. This was a NATO mission, it received additional legitimation in Afghanistan. There was nothing, so we may have to start again,” Karasev said.
