“Ukraine, willingly or unwillingly, found itself drawn into the election games in the United States, where in 2020 Republican Donald Trump and, most likely, Democrat Joe Biden will fight for the presidency. The problem arose because we do not have a clear external position, and the political connections of different groups of elites only provoke the country to be drawn into other people's games. And since there is no clear policy, it is filled with chaos and unprofessionalism.

Ukrainian prosecutors – former and current – suddenly became involved in foreign policy. Viktor Shokin, Yuriy Lutsenko, Konstantin Kulik and others travel around the world, some meet with Giuliani, others ask for political protection in exchange for information and incriminating evidence. The prosecutor should not be involved in foreign policy; this is not his competence. In addition, all these insider games damage the country’s reputation.

The other day, Donald Trump re-invited Vladimir Zelensky to the White House. What does it mean? Will this meeting be dedicated to US-Ukrainian relations or will the “game against Biden” be on the agenda again? The scandal is in full swing and everything speaks in favor of Trump’s situational desire to receive counterarguments against his main competitor.

As you know, Biden’s son Hunter was for some time on the board of directors of the Ukrainian gas production company Burisma. It had very conditional observer functionality, but the political tension in America forces Republicans to look for at least some arguments against competitors and, among other things, the Ukrainian trace turned out to be useful. Then they began to blackmail Ukraine with the allocation of military assistance, which weakens our positions against the backdrop of the military conflict with Russia,” writes Karasev.

The political scientist also asks the question: what goals do Ukrainian prosecutors pursue by getting involved in domestic American election intrigues?

“There is a lot of information in foreign media that Trump’s personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani even met with Ukrainian prosecutor Konstantin Kulik to personally agree on an investigation against Biden. The question arises: who does Kulik serve in the GPU - the law, the state, or is it just cool to get into the global game?” writes Karasev.

“In general, because of such anti-heroes and random negotiators, unprofessionalism and amateurism, our country’s foreign policy positions look lame and clumsy,” the political scientist sums up.
