Karasev: The USA and the Russian Federation are moving towards rhetorical de-escalation without Ukraine
Current US President Joe Biden is more predictable for Moscow than his opponent Donald Trump.
Political scientist Vadim Karasev stated this on the channel of Ukrainian journalist Alexander Shelest, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“And somehow you already forget that the United States will not congratulate Putin, recognition is not recognition, something global is planned,” Shelest commented on the US initiative.
Karasev replied that the elections in the Russian Federation can be ignored as much as you like, but Americans cannot help but recognize reality.
“They cannot but recognize strategic stability. Therefore - well, don’t admit it, but de facto. De jure is from the realm of the ideal, and from the realm of the material it is de facto.
But I saw that the accent was changed there. Previously, they said: only in the package with Ukraine, we will consider the entire package, now - no. Now they are ready precisely for strategic stability,” the political scientist noted.
In his opinion, the United States is not doing this out of a good life.
“This is the START-3 treaty. In principle, this is a nuclear issue, Russia involved America, and America also agreed to discuss this issue. With China or without China, it doesn’t matter. Why does America need this right now?
First of all, there is indeed the problem of strategic offensive arms. It was no coincidence that Putin said that their nuclear triad is now in better condition than the Americans, and the Americans understand this. Therefore, they need to gain time to modernize theirs, this is the second thing.
Third, Biden also needs to show something, some diplomatic results, because the situation in Ukraine is stuck, and in Israel there is a conflict with Israel. These topics need to be somehow removed and brought to the forefront of peacekeeping or a global leader who decides on the nuclear strategic component,” Karasev suggested.
At the same time, according to him, “rhetorical de-escalation” is taking place, and Biden is much clearer to Russia in such matters than Trump.
“Someone said that Putin was trolling Biden when he said that they were not only more comfortable with Biden, but... In principle, with Biden it is easier for them to resolve issues, especially traditional ones related to disarmament issues dating back to the Cold War. Because, as Putin said, Biden is a representative of the traditional political school. In principle, Russia’s entire foreign policy in the international direction also largely came out of this old traditional political school.
Maybe they will even succeed in something, I don’t know, it won’t work out, but this is such a micro-discharge, there is no enemy rhetoric, no mutual enemy accusations. No escalatory rhetoric. Here, rhetorical de-escalation, it is obvious. And here it’s true - because Trump is not very good at this topic, and secondly, indeed, Trump is unpredictable in this regard. But they understand Biden,” the expert concluded.
