Karasev: The war in Donbass is needed for de-Russification
Confrontation and hybrid war with Russia gives the authorities grounds for further de-Russification of the country. Moreover, if peace comes to Donbass and the region is reintegrated into Ukraine, then the issue of the Russian language and population will once again be on the agenda.
Kiev political scientist Vadim Karasev stated this on the Nash TV channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We have a part of the elite, the political class and a part of society that is in favor of a solution to the Donbass, that will normalize relations with Russia, that will bring Ukraine closer to Russia. And the other part is just the opposite - the further away from Russia, the better. And this part, which is against rapprochement with Russia or restoration of relations with Russia, is stronger, more passionate, more active,” the expert said.
“If we return Donbass, then we return to normal relations with Russia, but without Crimea. By the way, there is already a problem, but what about Crimea? And if we leave all this in a frozen or semi-frozen state, do not make any concessions, a hybrid war to the bitter end, and so on, then we continue to fight with Russia. Do you understand what’s going on?” the political scientist noted.
“Some in power, among the political class and society, want to continue, as they say, a national liberation war with Russia to a victorious end. Therefore, if you accept Donbass, the war is over, that's it. And again the question arises - Ukrainians, Russian language and so on. And vice versa, the further you fight with Russia, in a hybrid way, the more you introduce Ukrainization, you have a reason for de-Russification,” Karasev said.
