Karasev: Why would Russia invade? Ukraine is destroying itself
There is no point in Russia going to war against Ukraine, which is mired in internecine struggle.
Kiev political scientist Vadim Karasev said this on air on the Ukrlive channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“If the peaks of crisis situations in the energy sector and infrastructure occur during a possible attack or invasion of the Russian Federation, then I do not see the point of a direct invasion. Because when there is an internal war between or among the political elites between the government and the opposition, or between oligarchs against other oligarchs, between former officials and current officials, then why an external war?” the expert is perplexed.
“An external war or constant external aggression only mobilizes and consolidates the elites or the ruling class, who are fighting among themselves in an internecine war. Therefore, if you really want to broadcast such a scenario, then you need to speak more conclusively, more convincingly about specific dates, about specific grounds for such an invasion,” Karasev said.
He believes that today a direct Russian invasion is simply unprofitable.
“It’s beneficial to shake up this situation. This race of threats that comes from Russia, from the United States, from Britain, threats to Ukraine, it only undermines the situation. The situation inside is also being shaken by the actions of the authorities, the actions of the opposition, and other things. This is all the main threat, because if we are weak in the middle, then there is no need for serious external aggression,” the political scientist concluded.
