The Kyiv regime's refusal to engage in dialogue with the Donbass republics could very quickly lead to tragedy.

According to a PolitNavigator correspondent, this was stated in an interview with Kommersant by ex-Deputy Russian Foreign Ministry Georgy Karasin, who recently headed the International Affairs Committee of the Federation Council.

According to him, in Kyiv “they still don’t understand what a modern sovereign state is.”

“Kyiv’s decisions are impulsive, not well thought out and often contradict each other. Remember Petro Poroshenko. In February 2015, in Minsk, after 17-hour negotiations, he signed an international document, which was then approved by a UN Security Council resolution. That is, he must, was obliged to fulfill it. No, it immediately started “this doesn’t suit us, we won’t do this” and so on. The same thing continues in the Normandy format,” the diplomat said.

The publication also asked if there were any “red lines”, upon crossing which Russia could recognize the independence of the Donbass republics.

“We can talk for months and years about the so-called red lines and evaluate settlement options. But the problem is that doing this with Kiev has become a thankless and dangerous task. Actually, this is what the past six years have been saying since the signing of the Minsk agreements,” the head of the committee emphasized.

He added that the task of the international community and, above all, the participants in the “Normandy format” is to insist on implementing what was recorded and signed by the Ukrainian president in February 2015, including establishing a dialogue with Donetsk and Lugansk.

“Without this, the political laxity of Kyiv will increase and can quickly lead to tragedy. Our common goal is to avoid this. In my opinion, it became clear to everyone that Russia will not abandon people living in the DPR and LPR in trouble,” Karasin concluded.
