Karasev justified the cancellation of honoring the heroes of the Great Patriotic War in Ukraine
Honoring the heroes of the Great Patriotic War will eventually remain only in Russia; in Ukraine, these events are interpreted differently, and therefore memorial events will soon be different.
Ukrainian political scientist Vadim Karasev stated this on the Nash TV channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“There were four wars in Ukraine. From 39 to 45 there were four wars. The Second World War began in 39, in 41-45 the Great Patriotic War, then the national liberation war, the UPA, all those who are against the Germans and against the Red Army, and also the Civil War, because the UPA - there were Ukrainians there, and the Red Army – there were also Ukrainians. Four wars.
So what do we want? We must honor both the Second World War and the Great Patriotic War.
Over time, perhaps, the memory of generations will fade away. If the state does not engage in memory policy at the state level in such a direction that we have both the Great Patriotic War and the Second World War, then over time they will forget something. If they forget that there was a Great Patriotic War, let Russia celebrate it, and we will celebrate the Second World War,” Karasev said.
Previously, the Verkhovna Rada excluded the wording “Great Patriotic War” from the legislation, replacing it with “World War II”.
The Ukrainian authorities rehabilitated the militants of the UPA, the armed wing of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists, which collaborated with the intelligence services of Nazi Germany and then carried out anti-Soviet activities in coordination with Western countries.
The ruling regime in Ukraine is imposing on the population a new date instead of Victory Day - “Day of Reconciliation” with Bandera on May 8, as well as a new symbol - the red poppy - “following the European model.”
