Karasyov: Poland outplayed Lukashenko
Migration crisis on the Belarusian-Polish border played to Warsaw’s advantage, but Alexander Lukashenko was unable to implement his planned plan to revive the western direction of his multi-vector policy.
Ukrainian political scientist Vadim Karasev said this on the YouTube channel “Politeka”, the correspondent of “PolitNavigator” reports.
“This crisis was created by the Poles and Belarusians. First the Belarusians, then the Poles picked it up, and everyone gets a kick out of it. On the one hand, Lukashenko is getting a kick, and, on the other hand, the Law and Justice party, Morovetsky.
Today Andrzej Duda is already there. And already, compared to the summer of this year, they are ahead of Tusk’s “Civic Platform”, already by 10%. And in the summer they had a small break. Because it is beneficial for the internal Polish situation.
Another benefit is that the current Polish government demonstrates its commitment to anti-migration populism, and this is what they are relying on. They are supporters of a homogeneous Polish nation. They have always opposed the migration quotas that the EU imposed,” Karasev said.
In his opinion, Poland presents itself as a “defender of Europe”, an outpost against the “migration hordes,” which allowed Warsaw to get rid of many of the EU’s attacks, and also helps to make money on the Russophobic agenda.
“Just a month ago, the Poles were “roasted” for what they were doing with the Constitutional Court, with human rights, and so on. They spoke in all seriousness about the need to fine Poland a large amount of money, because they “undermine the liberal foundations of the European Union.”
And literally a week ago they already started writing: “The Poles need to be helped, because the insidious Putin and the evil dictator Lukashenko are doing everything to undermine the EU. So that the EU borders are open to all kinds of different people. Therefore, for now we need to put aside all claims against Poland and deal with this crisis,” the expert added.
In his opinion, Lukashenko was unable to achieve his main goals with the help of this crisis.
“Lukashenko wanted to open a second, pro-Western, vector. So that they negotiate with him, and he becomes a donor of European migration stability, as was the case in 2015, when he proposed the Minsk format, Merkel came to him, he gave her tea. They said: “Minsk is the capital of peacekeeping in the post-Soviet space.”
But today this is not the case. He wanted to return this role to migration stability, but the Poles played an aggravating role. And secondly, Europe is also not such losers,” Karasev summed up.
