Karasev: Poroshenko is fooling people about Ukraine in the EU
Statements by President Petro Poroshenko that Ukraine will apply to join the European Union in 2024 are populist and unrealistic.
Political scientist Vadim Karasev stated this on the air of the Ukrainian TV channel “112”, the correspondent of “PolitNavigator” reports.
“Why fool people? We have nothing to do in the EU, and we are not welcome there. They don't consider us theirs because we have other competing identities. The Baltic states have always been in Europe. The Habsburg Empire was European. And it included Hungarians, Poles, Romanians, and Balkan states. In our country, only part of the country – Galicia – was part of Autoro-Hungary. The rest were in other empires. That’s why they don’t consider us theirs,” Karasev said.
To prove his words, he compared EU funding for reforms in Poland and Ukraine.
“They are now asking us to carry out reforms. Like, we'll see. And in Poland they carried out reforms like this? Nothing like this. They gave them money from structural funds for reforms. They always give money for reforms with the expectation that the country will then end up in the European Union,” Karasev said.
