The initiatives of the recently appointed “language ombudsman” Tatyana Monakhova may provoke a massive transformation of Russian-speaking Ukrainians into “Ukrainian Russians”, which the residents of the LDPR have become.

Ukrainian political scientist Vadim Karasev said this on air on the Ukrlife channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“Now there is five years of war in Donbass, a new community has already formed there. Previously, they were Russian-speaking Ukrainians, now they are already Ukrainian Russians. There is a difference?" – asked the expert.

“It seems to me that you are in a hurry,” the presenter replied.

“No, because there are Ukrainian Hungarians? Eat. They will be loyal, those who remained there, the majority,” Karasev continued.

“Do you think they will be loyal? Why should they be loyal to Russia? She brought them war and gave them nothing in return,” the journalist was indignant.

“This will have to be explained, proven, if we open, if we are successful, and so on. If we are dominated not by the ethnic or cultural linguistic narrative of the nation, but by the civil one, they can become Russian-speaking,” the political scientist explained.

“When the new language ombudsman says: “Russian-speaking? What should they be afraid of? They can turn to their country for help, which is their national home!”, it turns out that if Russian speakers are oppressed, they can turn to Russia, because it will protect linguistic and so on rights. And then Russian-speaking Ukrainians will feel that this is not their state...

For Russian-speaking Ukrainians, with the exception, Russia has never been a national home, so that they see it as a protection of their social, economic, linguistic, cultural, religious, and so on rights.

But you can do so much harm if you now mono-ethnicize a nation, if you mono-nationalize it, if you continue to pursue a policy of nationalist mobilization for political purposes, that you can turn them into loyal citizens not to Ukraine, but vice versa,” Karasev added.
