Karasyov said that Poroshenko is preparing to act in the elections
Ukrainian authorities may try to falsify election results in eastern regions, where disloyal populations may demonstrate low turnout.
Political scientist Vadim Karasev stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“There is actually a semi-martial situation there. Especially in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions. It is important to monitor the integrity of the elections so that there is no fraud. If the current president has a very high result there, it will be suspicious. Citizens there are not very loyal to the central government. By the way, the turnout will demonstrate the degree of their loyalty to the state. It is necessary that they come, but the votes were not falsified,” Karasev said.
He also expressed fears about rampant “grassroots violence” in the upcoming elections.
“There is a link between central and local authorities and local crime in many regions, especially in the south and east of Ukraine: Kharkov, Dnepropetrovsk, Zaporozhye, Odessa. There is a region with weapons and, it is possible, external agents who will play to destabilize it. Various kinds of paramilitary groups, such as patriotic ones, may well work in the interests of criminal groups and administrative resources. This grassroots irrational violence is encouraged from above,” Karasev said.
