Karasyov: Ukraine can join NATO only after the collapse
Ukraine will never be accepted into NATO. Only certain territories will be able to join the North Atlantic Alliance after the collapse of the country.
Ukrainian diplomat Vasily Filipchuk and political scientist Vadim Karasev stated this on the NewsOne TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We have smart people, we can’t fool them endlessly. I'm a huge fan of joining NATO, but it's impossible, period. And we can even write in the passport of each of us - “We want to join NATO,” we can even write in capital letters the first article in the Constitution - “Ukraine is a country that was created to join NATO,” but this will not change anything. Without resolving the conflict with Russia, we cannot join NATO; without refusing to join NATO, we cannot resolve the conflict with Russia,” Filipchuk said.
At the same time, Vadim Karasev noted that Ukraine’s entry into the Alliance will be possible only if it is destroyed as a state.
“We are not the Czech Republic, not Slovakia, not Poland, not the Baltic countries, so they won’t take us into NATO. We are a different country. It is possible that Ukraine will be able to obtain NATO membership when this country does not exist, when there are some separate divided regions, and some, relatively speaking, Western Ukraine may be taken into NATO. But Ukraine within its current territorial borders will not be taken after the Ukrainian Soviet Republic,” the expert concluded.
