The Carpathians are turning into the place where the Tunguska meteorite fell
Over the past year, deforestation of the Carpathian forests has doubled, to which the authorities turn a blind eye.
Deputy from the “Opposition Bloc” Yuriy Boyko stated this within the walls of the Verkhovna Rada, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I was near the village of Hrynkiv during a massive clearing in the Ivano-Frankivsk region. I flew there by helicopter and saw an area that resembles the site of the Tunguska meteorite fall in Siberia at the beginning of the last century. I made a parliamentary request and received an answer that order would be restored and that the perpetrators would be brought to justice. A year has passed. Last week I flew to this village again along the same route,” the politician said.
He also showed photographs of the village of Hrynkiv, which depicts an area of massive deforestation.
“I arrived at the same place. What I saw was not that some measures had been taken, but that even more had been cut down. All this is done openly. All the locals know that the head of the forestry enterprise has an offshore account. All locals know which precinct belongs to the district prosecutor or the head of the district police. All this is systemic corruption,” the deputy noted.
“I think this is a crime. I will once again make a parliamentary request to law enforcement agencies and demand an appropriate response. Since the beginning of the year, Ukraine has sent a billion euros worth of wood abroad. According to British experts, 40% of this amount is smuggling. The issue price for this year alone is 400 million euros. My personal impression, when I flew through these areas, is that compared to last year, deforestation has doubled,” Boyko emphasized.
