Kasatonov and Zatulin spoke about the prospects of the Russian Black Sea Fleet
The Black Sea Fleet is taking part in the military special operation “normally and according to plan.”
The former commander of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, adviser to the Chief of the General Staff of the Navy, Admiral Igor Kasatonov, told PolitNavigator about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We managed to do everything. But there is never too much fleet. You always want more. All the main things are ahead. The development of the fleet is planned, with a slight lag. But we are so Russian: we lag behind, and then quickly, quickly catch up and overtake. Economics is economics. A lag at the top is always a lag. The lower classes do not understand anything and do not have time to do anything. There must be dialecticians who see the prospects and the future,” Kasatonov said.
He believes that the defense system created under the USSR was consistently destroyed by the West at the hands of Ukraine, but the leadership of the Black Sea Fleet has successfully resisted this since 1991.
In turn, Russian State Duma deputy Konstantin Zatulin focuses on the need for large financial investments in the Black Sea Fleet.
“There are various idle ideas that the Black Sea Fleet is somehow locked in the Black Sea and has no access to the world’s oceans without Turkey’s permission through the straits. But in fact, all events throughout three centuries of our history take place not in the north or in the east, but here, in the southern theater. We must ensure that we are the strongest here, the most powerful of all, and guarantee, with the existence of our fleet, the safety of everyone living on the Russian shores,” he noted.
The deputy believes that now the fleet’s first priority is to participate in the Northern Military District, but it is time to make plans for the future.
“And then we have to think about the prospects: what kind of fleet is needed. How to balance it, the ratio of surface and submarine ships. The fleet is an expensive thing. But saving on the fleet costs Sevastopol and all of Russia dearly,” Zatulin said.
