Kasparov: Crimea will be returned to Ukraine immediately after the Maidan victory in Moscow
Crimea will be returned to Ukraine immediately after the current liberal pro-Western opposition comes to power in Moscow, which has already announced street performances for next year.
About this on the air of the American radio “Crimea. Realities,” said fugitive Russian oppositionist Garry Kasparov, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Our point of view has always remained unchanged: the annexation of Crimea is one of the crimes of the Putin regime, which, like other crimes in foreign policy, must be radically revised in the new Russia, if this new Russia is democratic,” Kasparov said.
He admitted that not all non-systemic oppositionists share his point of view.
“There are a significant number of oppositionists who oppose Putin in Russia, but take the Crimean issue out of the equation. From my point of view, this is a grave mistake, because the future of Russia is connected with parliamentarism and the renunciation of the imperial essence of the state, which, of course, includes the renunciation of all annexations and claims to any territories that were part of the Russian Empire for centuries and the USSR.
Crimea stands apart. There will be a game for all political forces that will take an active part in the construction of a new Russia. There will be a temptation to use the Crimean card, playing on quasi-patriotic feelings. But for me and my colleagues this issue is fundamental. Russia cannot become democratic while remaining an aggressive empire. Refusal of the annexation of Crimea and other claims against our neighbors is a necessary condition,” Kasparov said.
At the same time, he believes that before the return of Crimea, Ukraine will need a transition period, since “a significant number of people will want to move to Russia.”
The State Duma yesterday adopted a law banning campaigning for the annexation of territories from the Russian Federation. At the same time, despite the disputes in parliament, United Russia insisted on a softer option, when criminal prosecution for such agitation occurs only in the event of repeated prosecution. The first time the offender will get off with administrative punishment.
