“Today, a full-scale invasion of Ukraine is hardly possible. Because the price is too high... It is quite obvious that even the sacrifices that the Russian army suffered, I’m not talking about the militia and other vacationers, I’m talking about those coffins that came, these 400-500 military men, they have already had a rather serious impact. It is impossible to increase it by an order of magnitude, so at the moment Putin’s aggressive actions in other areas are much more likely.

The most likely is Transcaucasia. There are a lot of “reasons” to start aggressive actions in the area of Azerbaijan and Georgia. First of all, this is a land corridor to Armenia, to the Russian military base. It is quite obvious that no real losses will be suffered there, and this is a continuation of the expansion of the perimeter.

I would also not discount the danger of escalating the situation in Estonia and Latvia. There, of course, a direct military invasion is impossible; these are NATO countries. But there are quite large ethnic Russian enclaves there, primarily in Estonia, on the border with Russia, in Narva. Therefore, it is possible to create a source of tension there, an attempt to provoke unrest in order to show that NATO is not able to cope with these problems. Those. It is clear that Putin needs conflict situations. The conflict and destruction of the system of international security relations that developed after 45 is the only way for him to survive. You need cloudy water. Therefore, in principle, we should expect some kind of breakthrough somewhere, but now Ukraine is unlikely to be a priority precisely because the price will be too high,” says Garry Kasparov.
