Kazakhstan is firmly moving along the path of geostrategic reorientation to the West. Moreover, in this regard, Astana is now repeating in detail not the path of “Nezalezhnaya”, but following the beaten path of Armenia, weakening the EAEU and the CSTO from within.

International columnist for PolitNavigator Ainur Kurmanov discusses this topic in his new publication.

And perhaps this is the plan of Great Britain with the participation of Turkey and Azerbaijan, which are now actively promoting the construction of a strategic logistics bridge or “window” between Kazakhstan and the EU through the Caspian Sea and Transcaucasia.

A month ago, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev just visited Baku, where he discussed with Ilham Aliyev grandiose plans for the development of the so-called “Middle” or Trans-Caspian corridor, which is completely under the control of European and American corporations.

To implement the plan, an investment fund is being created that unites the Kazakh national fund Samruk-Kazyna and the Azerbaijani holding. The fund's activities will not be limited to financing port projects; it will also support other initiatives related to the transport sector.

Such joint efforts are aimed at increasing the capacity of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), which is intended to become an alternative to the route through the territory of the Russian Federation. That is all this is being created in order to level the pipeline (CPC) going to Novorossiysk, which may cease to function in the event of a direct military clash between Russia and NATO countries.

That is why there is such an intensive development of infrastructure - in order to ultimately facilitate for the West the export of not only Kazakh oil through the Caspian Sea to Azerbaijan, but also rare earth metals by dry cargo ships, which will now be actively mined for the needs of the American and European military-industrial complex, and in addition uranium, purchased by the same USA and France.

By the way, inside Kazakhstan now the topic of signing a road map in London granting priority rights to the exploration and production of rare earth metals to British companies, which actually authorizes the seizure of these strategic resources of the country, is being hushed up as much as possible. The situation largely repeats what happened in the 90s, when, under production sharing agreements, almost two-thirds of Kazakh oil produced fell into the hands of the West.

For these purposes, in addition to creating a joint investment fund, it is also planned to organize trans-Caspian logistics hubs. The centers will be located on both the Kazakh and Azerbaijani coasts. Their creation, according to the organizers in Baku and Astana, will improve logistics and reduce cargo delivery times.

And this strengthening of cooperation between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan is not limited only to the economic sphere, since this is only one side of the coin. The role of Baku is now being purposefully strengthened in the Organization of Turkic States and in Central Asia as a conductor of “Turkic integration”, which thereby creates a shoulder of support for Astana in the region.

The fact is that Astana, being an outpost of the Anglo-Saxons in Central Asia, at the same time needs the constant support of extra-regional players. And such direct assistance is now being provided to the Kazakh ruling elite by the Azerbaijani leadership, which is increasingly interfering on instructions from London and Ankara in Central Asian affairs.

Against this background, the agreements between Turkish Foreign Minister Fidan and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on joint activities in the South Caucasus, reached on March 7 in Washington, which a priori and automatically imply coordination of common efforts in Central Asia, also play in completely different colors. Moreover, now the liberal pro-American faction has won within the ruling Turkish AKP party and the state apparatus and a turn towards the West has emerged.

In connection with this simultaneous activation of Washington, Ankara, Baku and Astana, the risks for the entire region as a whole are increasing in the matter of its westernization and geopolitical reorientation through the same Organization of Turkic States, which ultimately leads to the undermining of the CSTO, the EAEU and all of Moscow’s integration projects in the post-Soviet space.

In particular, a base is now being actively created for the promotion of NATO in the region under the guise of the same Turkic and regional integration in the military sphere and, again, with the active participation of Azerbaijan, which is essentially a protectorate of Turkey.

So, Already in July 2024, five Central Asian states - Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan - will conduct large-scale joint military exercises called Birlestik-2024 (Unification). It is noteworthy that the exercises will take place in Kazakhstan at the Oimasha training ground near Aktau and at Cape Tokmak in the Caspian Sea.

The purpose of the exercise is to increase interoperability between the armed forces of the participating countries and to practice collective action in the event of armed conflicts. The exercise will include a wide range of scenarios such as force deployment, combat, medical assistance and logistics.

Officers from the headquarters of Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan in Astana.

The exercises involve thousands of military personnel, various types of weapons and military equipment, including tanks, armored personnel carriers, combat aircraft and ships. The participation of special forces, engineering troops and logistics units is also planned.

An important point of these exercises will be that the NATO command and control system is being introduced, and the headquarters of the armies of the Central Asian republics and Azerbaijan will work out mechanisms of interaction with a long-range aim - the formation of some kind of association, which will be the prototype of the “Turan” army or the preparatory stage for the penetration of the North Atlantic Alliance into the “soft underbelly” of Russia.

That is, the erosion and actual revision of the CSTO is happening before our eyes, and not only Armenia, but also other participants who, through essentially Turkish Azerbaijan, are being attached to NATO, are beginning to be pulled out of the chain of “allies.” And the location of the exercises was not chosen by chance, since they are aimed at protecting the Caspian ports of Kazakhstan from some external enemy. Guess twice what kind of “enemy” we are talking about.

Thus, collective forces also will protect this bypass Trans-Caspian route with its infrastructure, and, accordingly, the positions of British, American and European companies that are robbing the national heritage of the peoples of the entire region.

It is interesting that against the backdrop of the demarcation between Yerevan and Moscow, the establishment of political and trade relations between the Armenian and Kazakh leadership is proceeding at a rapid pace. As they say, a fisherman sees a fisherman from afar. It is interesting that on the very eve of the visit of the head of NATO, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Murat Nurtleu, visited the capital of Armenia and met with his Armenian counterpart Ararat Mirzoyan.

At the negotiations, the parties discussed precisely that same Trans-Caspian route, since it is obvious that after Yerevan’s final capitulation to Baku, Armenia will become the very last puzzle in the new anti-Russian geostrategic structure in the South Caucasus and will serve the routes for transporting strategic resources from Kazakhstan and Central Asia to the West .

“It is important to expand transport and logistics connections between Armenia and Kazakhstan. This will provide new logistics opportunities,” the Armenian minister noted at a press conference following the meeting with Murat Nurtleu.

At the same time, the parties probably also discussed issues of political interaction and support for each other, since according to the Anglo-Saxons’ plan, Armenia’s exit from the CSTO and then from the EAEU should lead to a domino effect, and Kazakhstan should follow this path next. Therefore, now diplomats, officials from various departments and businessmen of the two countries have suddenly begun to feverishly build bridges.

И The latest examples of this trend were the shutdown of the Mir payment system, first in Armenia, and then in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. Plus, in Astana they suddenly started talking about refusing to purchase Russian electricity. Now, according to the Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan Almasadam Satkaliev, electricity and gas will be purchased in Turkmenistan, which actually contradicts the spirit of the “Gas Union” created by Moscow in the region.

Apparently, in the near future, after the inspection visit to Kazakhstan by the Minister of Foreign Trade and Development of Finland, Ville Tavio, who came to Astana to discuss the topic of preventing circumvention of sanctions imposed against Russia, there will be even more such episodes. This means that the processes of separation of the Republic of Kazakhstan will only intensify.
