Kazakhstan, a country of the Customs Union, is ahead of Ukraine on the path to a visa-free regime with the EU
The course towards European integration and the severance of ties with Russia, pursued by the new authorities of Ukraine, led to negative consequences for the former Soviet republic.
Ruslan Bortnik, director of the Ukrainian Institute of Policy Analysis and Management, stated this at a round table in Kyiv.

“This falsification of both Ukrainian foreign policy and the vector of civilizational development of the state as a whole has several components. The first is an absolutely artificial pushing of our country into an artificial choice between the EU and Russia - “either-or”. Although smart, successful countries know that they can choose “both-and”, i.e. have several vectors of strategic development.
Many EU countries and former Soviet countries demonstrate this to us. An example is Kazakhstan. This is a Customs Union country, whose citizens can visit Germany for up to 12 days without a visa. This is an example of a successful state policy of balancing development vectors.
The second component of falsification is a complete substitution of concepts, which takes place in Ukraine. The concrete result of development - strengthening the economy, raising social standards - was replaced by politicians with the slogan of European integration. Such a substitution leads to the fact that society becomes irrational, manipulative, succumbs to a beautiful picture, but does not know how to “calculate” it.
European integration without a rational component has led to the fact that Ukraine has become an instrument in the geopolitical games of large countries and has largely lost its sovereignty - political, economic, and social. As a result, Ukraine ceased to be a participant in the negotiation process in relations with both the EU and other countries. Large countries negotiate behind our backs,” stated Bortnik.
