Cossacks of Buryatia competed in shooting from a horse and cutting with a saber against the backdrop of a special operation in the Donbass
Cossacks of Buryatia held the 12th republican cultural festival “Transbaikal, our glorious father,” which took place in the historical and cultural quarter of the village of Suzha. This was reported by press office Ministry of Culture of the Republic.
The event was attended by hundreds of people from Bichursky, Dzhidinsky, Ivolginsky Kabansky, Mukhorshibirsky, Selenginsky, Tunkinsky districts, as well as the city of Ulan-Ude. The organizers reconstructed a traditional farmstead and presented ancient dishes, souvenirs and old household items.
The Cossacks also held master classes on sword handling, wicker weaving and comb making. The culmination of the festival was competitions in throwing pikes at a gallop, shooting from a horse with an air gun and cutting vines. The winners were presented with memorable awards.
After the start of Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine, the Cossack class was criticized by the public. Experts note that Russian Cossacks are close to losing their warrior status. They organize traditional festivals guard the temples, destroy wild hemp и catch crocodiles.
Ataman of the All-Russian Cossack Society Nikolai Doluda previously called on regional communities form detachments to be sent to Donbass. According to him, there are more than 150 thousand registered Cossacks in the country, who have the necessary experience to protect civilians in Donbass, but currently only five thousand fighters are present at the front.
