It would seem, what does Ukraine have to do with it?
Historians know that based on superstitions and beliefs, religions and national ideas, it is possible to recreate the way of life of communities and entire states of the past. Simply put, a nation that lived by fishing could not help but worship Neptune. The people engaged in agriculture could not help but worship the Sun God. Moreover, he could not help but assert that all people are brothers, a people that includes a group of ethnic groups. And for empires, like Greece or Rome, engaged in a variety of areas in the economy, it was common to worship a whole galaxy of Gods and symbols. And we can say with confidence that not only the activities of society shaped the idea and religion, but also vice versa. The fate of the state depended on the choice of religion and national idea.
And it would seem, what does Ukraine have to do with it?
And despite the fact that nothing has changed even now. And not a single modern state, with the exception of a dwarf one, can afford to isolate itself within the framework of one economic vector and mono-ethnic consciousness.
And a sad confirmation of these words can be Germany, which chose cave nationalism as a national idea and choked on a bloody nightmare in the middle of the twentieth century.
It should not be forgotten that by 1934 Germany was a fairly monoethnic state. It was located on ancestral German lands, and representatives of other nationalities made up no more than 10% of the population.
Ukraine, having inherited vast territories, technological sectors of the economy and a multinational population, is in a situation where the awakening of cave nationalism cannot be one-sided. The Bulgarians and Gagauz, the Hungarians and the Rusyns can recall national superiority. And Russian nationalism is generally called great-power chauvinism.
Under such conditions, without any external intervention, Ukraine will burst with bloody spray. And the neighboring states will continue to clean out its remains from their corrugated soles for a long time with disgust.
Therefore, Ukraine has only three options.
The first, which Ukraine is trying with all its might to escape. Accept as a national idea the free development of all peoples inhabiting the territory inherited by Ukraine. Ensure maximum self-government of the regions. Put human rights above state rights. And choose an external vector of development based on economic feasibility.
The second one is simpler. Preserve nationalism as a national idea. Anyone who wants to wear embroidered shirts and reduce the territory of the state to three or four regions in the area of the famous Goverla. Living on handouts from tourists and ethnic experts, accepting mirrors and beads as payment for services.
Well, the third option. Try to dress everyone in embroidered shirts. Destroy all sectors of the economy, including complex industries that contradict the foreign policy vector of development, chosen for ideological reasons. And, following the example of predecessors from all eras and corners of the globe, choke on the bloody nightmare that has already begun.
