Kazan will not rename Nazarbayev Street, although citizens want it
The Kazan City Hall does not plan to consider the issue of renaming the street named after the first president of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev.
This was reported by the press service of the mayor's office, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The Executive Committee of Kazan is also not considering renaming Nazarbayev Street,” the press service said.
The city hall sees the main obstacle to renaming the street as the need for regular paperwork. In particular, street residents will have to reissue papers. Otherwise, the mayor's office does not see a problem.
Nazarbayev Street changed its name in 2015. Previously it was called Esperanto. After the pogroms in Almaty at the beginning of the year, several initiative groups of Kazan residents advocated returning to the old name. He is considered more beautiful by 83% of citizens who took part in an online survey.
