“You take these flowers to your graves.” – This inscription appeared on the House of Trade Unions in Odessa. For three months, day after day, Odessa residents bring flowers to the House of Trade Unions, light lamps, leave portraits of the dead... And at night, someone again and again clears the square of evidence of the nightmare, of symbols of memory and grief. And there is nothing human in these purges, only anger, only fear, only the understanding that Odessa is not broken.
And no amount of threats, beatings or general arrests can change the situation. Odessa has no more tears. Odessa doesn't get angry, she remembers and concentrates.
Odessa is not concerned about any results of the investigation, especially since the Russian FSB has already been declared the culprit. Odessa knows its killers by name. Everyone who came up with this nightmare, dividing the history of the city into “before” and “after”. Everyone who was directly involved. And those who turned out to be banal traitors.
Because May 2 is not only the most tragic page in the history of Odessa, it is the result of a monstrous betrayal on the part of the Odessa political elite. The elite, which built its political career on pro-Russian rhetoric, concentrated all possible resources in its hands, and in the most crucial months of the Russian Spring safely hid, saying: “guys, now is not the time.” They were the ones who knew everything and could influence. To influence, if not the junta’s decision to kill, then the preparation of the resistance. Instead, they made every effort to weaken the movement. For which, apparently, they received a new license to rule under the occupation regime.
One conclusion can be drawn from all this. Liberating the city from invaders, it will also be necessary to liberate it from the elites. Regardless of what they lie next time. They were parasites on the body of the city, they made money on his life, and then decided to make money on his death.
And, looking at how persistently they clear the Kulikovo Field of flowers at night, you understand how afraid they are of Odessa. Humiliated, burned and trampled. Therefore, they keep thousands of killers from private armies in the city, and they bring up the troops and armored vehicles that they so need in the East. And it turns out that Odessa is still participating in the war for Novorossiya, pinning down significant enemy forces.
Unfortunately, this is all that Odessa can do today. In conditions of total pressure, endless repression and the absence of any resource, Odessa is capable of nothing more than keeping the enemy in suspense.
In Kyiv, it’s not in vain that they fear that by the fall several more People’s Republics may become part of Novorossiya, and one of them will be Odessa.
