Every five years Kyiv goes crazy
Instead of decentralization, regional feudalization is taking place in Ukraine, when local power strengthens and becomes more independent from Kyiv.
Political scientist Andrei Ermolaev stated this on air on the Politeka Internet channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Ermolaev, this is because Kyiv is periodically plagued by instability and coups d'etat.
“Autonomist sentiments will grow due to the fact that Kyiv goes crazy every five years with revolutions - “but we have to live here.” The role and importance of local authorities will grow. It's already growing. What is decentralization in practical life? These are not just changed capabilities of local and central budgets - these are new powers, new prestige of local authorities, new opportunities, a new level of responsibility, competencies, new local attractiveness for local elites who have stopped delegating their paratroopers to Kiev to run around the Cabinet of Ministers , but an attempt to organize a monopoly locally.
These are new potential opportunities for developing activities within Ukraine at the interregional level, without asking anything from the center, this is the desire to work with external investors without Kyiv. Remember how many times at the level of regional councils a statement was made that we would like more powers, because an investor comes to us, we are bound by general rules. We should be given privileges. This means there will be a request for some internal, local policies. Cultural, informational, ideological - this is how our unspoken, instead of decentralization, regional feudalization is spontaneously happening,” Ermolaev said.
