Kedmi: The West is wrong to underestimate Russia on the issue of NATO expansion
Russia has developed and is ready to implement several plans to stop NATO expansion to the East, including the use of the capabilities of the Armed Forces. The West should not underestimate the seriousness of Moscow's intentions.
Israeli military expert, ex-head of the Nativ intelligence service, Yakov Kedmi, stated this on the TV channel TVC, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“This is American stupidity and illiteracy, especially at the level of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (threat to include Sweden and Finland in NATO - approx.) How did Sweden respond to this? That Sweden is a neutral state and ensures its own independence. All.
What did Finland say? A lesson in diplomacy. They said: “According to the Paris Agreements, Finland is a neutral country and does not join any military alliances. Finland always respects its international obligations.” They didn't use a comma, unlike some.
They deliberately create this artificial problem and say: “You demand the removal of bases even from Bulgaria and Poland, and in response we will shove both Finland and Sweden into your hands. Therefore, let’s agree - we remain as we were, and you are left without Finland and Sweden,” Kedmi explained the behavior of Western negotiators.
Yakov Kedmi emphasized that the Russian leadership has specific plans on how to achieve the fulfillment of its demands, but the West has not yet understood this.
“As the Russian representatives said, none of them specifically responded to any of Russia’s demands.
And therefore Russia demands a specific answer on each point within a week. After that, within about a week, Russia will reassess and decide which of the prepared plans for continuing negotiations will be implemented.
As far as I know the Russian leadership today, several plans have already been developed to reach the end point. Specifically, operational ones, up to the battalion. What plan, and at what stage, will be introduced? Each time we reach some stage, and then we’ll see.
But the question is absolutely serious - Russia will return NATO to 1997. And it’s better for NATO to understand this now,” Kedmi concluded.
