Kelbakh: The bridge to Crimea will pass through Tuzla so as not to interfere with ferries

There were 74 options for constructing a transport crossing, including a cable car, said the head of Avtodor. The expert council included all the largest players in the field of bridge and tunnel construction: Mostotrest, Volgomost, USK Most, Stroytransgaz, tunnel builders in Sochi, BAM-Tonnelstroy. Representatives of the world's largest Chinese state-owned company, China Construction Communication Company, visited the construction site and will also give their technical and financial proposals. In addition, Kelbach does not exclude participation in the construction of the bridge from Korean, French, Spanish and Italian companies.
As a result, “together with the expert community, we finally decided on the construction site - the option of a transport crossing at the Tuzla Spit site,” says Kelbakh. Tuzla was chosen for the bridge, although now there is no railway or highway on Tuzla, and the Chushka spit (the rejected version of the project) is approached by railway tracks, there is a road, and there is a ferry service. Kelbach explains this by saying that the construction of the bridge from Chushka will paralyze the ferry crossing, which will remain the only means of communication with Crimea until the completion of work on the bridge.
“If we start building in this zone (Chushka – editor’s note), we will need to import about 180-200 thousand tons of metal structures alone,” says the head of Avtodor. – I’m not even talking about inert materials, cement. We will simply paralyze the only working crossing today. As for the Tuzla Spit, the distance from coast to coast is approximately the same.”
The cost of the transport transition, according to Kelbach, will depend on which option the Russian government chooses. “We offer two constructive options for the transition,” says the minister. – The first is a combined bridge crossing for rail and road transport. The second is a road bridge and a railway tunnel.” According to the head of Avtodor, “it is not yet clear, for example, whether this will be a railway bridge on the same level as a road bridge or whether the road will be above the railway in the form of a whatnot. Both technologies exist, and the use of one or the other affects the cost.”
According to Mr. Kelbach, it is too early to talk about whether the road from Crimea to Kuban will be tolled.
