“Tonight the monument to Lenin was barbarically destroyed. It was the largest monument to Lenin in Ukraine - a monument of monumental art of local significance. The monument was registered with the state as an object of cultural heritage.
But the monument was destroyed. They knocked me to the ground. The wreckage was dismantled for souvenirs by those people who fiercely hated this monument.
I would like to note that what happened tonight is a direct violation of the Law in terms of ensuring the security of peaceful assemblies of citizens of Ukraine. Under the cover of darkness, radicals destroyed the monument to Lenin. It is very important to understand that not a single law enforcement official issued a single warning to the people who smashed the monument. The police did not protect the interests of the territorial community - and the monument was on the balance sheet of the city of Kharkov - allowing the monument to be destroyed. Moreover, Minister of Internal Affairs Avakov has already hastened to announce that none of the participants in this barbaric action will be punished.
In order not to waste a lot of words, I will say one thing - we will definitely restore the monument to Lenin on Freedom Square in Kharkov,” Kernes said.
Thank you!
