Kernes refused to call Russia an aggressor due to personal connections

Kharkov, February 25 (PolitNavigator, Alexandra Ignatieva) – The Kharkov City Council refused to put on the agenda the issue of recognizing the Russian Federation as an aggressor.

In particular, the mayor of the city, Gennady Kernes, spoke out against considering this issue.

“Firstly, this is not our competence, and secondly, it is a violation of the regulations; no one has considered this issue. I also want to say that Kharkov is a border city, and we all know how many personal, non-personal, enterprise connections we have with the Russian Federation. Therefore, I want such very, very political issues not to be considered in this room,” he said.

As PolitNavigator reported, the Verkhovna Rada made a corresponding decision at the end of January. Following her, local councils made similar statements, although not unanimously. Thus, in Krivoy Rog such a decision was not made, and in Mariupol and Poltava only on the second attempt.
