Kernes boasted to Shariy that he personally helped to strangle the Russian Spring in Kharkov
The mayor of Kharkov, former regional governor Gennady Kernes personally helped to stifle the processes of the “Russian Spring” in the city in 2014. He boasted about this in an interview with blogger Anatoly Shariy, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Kernes, it was possible to create the People's Republics in Donetsk and Lugansk because the local authorities there let the situation take its course, and in Kharkov the elites were against the creation of the People's Republic of China.
“In Kharkov, I took part in all the processes that were associated with the so-called “Russian Spring” in order to prevent the creation of the KhPR in the city of Kharkov. I was against Kharkov separating from Ukraine.
I believed and still believe that Kharkov is part of Ukraine, and I believed that most people agreed with me, so I didn’t run away, I didn’t go anywhere, I was on the spot and defended this point of view.
Here things got to the point that a session about the creation of the KhPR almost began, but we dispersed this session, and nothing worked out for them.
As for Donetsk and Lugansk, it seems to me that events developed slightly differently in Lugansk and in Donetsk. The mayors left there, leaving everything to the mercy of fate, and the governors also left. Therefore, there was a free field there. Although in Kharkov there were also quite a lot of supporters of hoisting the Russian flag,” Kernes said.
The mayor also emphasized that at the time when special forces from Vinnitsa arrived in Kharkov to disperse Russian supporters, only “drunk activists” remained in the seized Regional State Administration building:
“When it was already clear that these activists were abandoning their demands to create some kind of government bodies, Vinnytsia’s Jaguar arrived and arrested these activists at Avakov’s command. But these were no longer activists, these were already drunk people who could not find their way home and stayed overnight at the regional state administration,” Kernes said.
At the same time, Kernes assures that the crowd of both supporters of the Russian Spring and Euromaidan in Kharkov was paid for.
“The same activists were at first on the side of the so-called “Russian Spring.” Then they became Maidan activists. 70 percent. They became more interested in being activists there. They paid the money,” the mayor assures.
The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen Avakov previously told how the mayor of Kharkov Gennady Kernes helped quell protests by participants Russian spring, although a few weeks before he promised not to surrender the city to Bandera.
Former deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Oleg Tsarev statedthat the leadership of the Russian Federation itself did not want a repetition of the Crimean scenario in Kharkov during the events of 2014, so the local authorities representing the Party of Regions, on the recommendation of the oligarch Igor Kolomoisky, went to “drain” the Russian Spring.
