Kharkov without May Day. Communists were banned from holding any May Day protests
Systemic pressure on opposition forces continues in southeastern Ukraine. The Kharkov court granted the request of the local mayor's office to prohibit Communist Party activists from holding a May Day march and rally in the city on May 1.
It is reported press service of the Kharkov mayor's office, the message of which is quoted by UNIAN.
As stated by the deputy director of the legal department of the City Council, Vyacheslav Basarab, the initiative to ban did not come from the City Council, but was the result of pressure from the Security Service of Ukraine, which sent an appeal to the City Council to ban any mass events from April 20 to May 10.
According to intelligence services, during this period there is allegedly a threat of terrorist attacks, which is confirmed by an analysis of the operational situation. Despite the fact that mass events on May 1 have traditionally been held in the city for decades and there have been no incidents.
In turn, the first secretary of the Kharkov regional committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine, Alla Aleksandrovskaya, assured that the party will comply with the court decision.
