For several days now, the “patriotic public” of Ukraine has been whipping up hysteria around the threat of demolition of the “Everything for Victory” tent, which was unauthorizedly erected in the center of Kharkov by nationalists after the start of the military operation in Donbass, in which contributions were collected for the needs of the so-called. ATO. The reason was the appearance on the City Council website of a petition proposing to dismantle the dubious “landmark.”

Kharkiv city mayor Gennady Kernes has already stated that he will work to implement the petition if it receives the required 5 thousand votes. In less than XNUMX hours, the petition collected the required number of signatures, as did an appeal demanding that the name of Soviet Marshal Zhukov be returned to the city map.

Kernes himself called on Kharkiv residents to support both petitions: “It’s really no longer possible to look at this tent on Freedom Square. Dirty, with some fragments of shells, it itself had also exploded more than once. Personally, I am in favor of removing it.

It’s more complicated with the avenue, which used to be named after Marshal Zhukov, and now General Grigorenko. Both are worthy of perpetuation. But ask those few veterans - who did they call the Marshal of Victory? And, of course, his services in the defeat of fascism cannot be overestimated. Conclusion - Kharkiv residents! I urge you to support these petitions,” Kernes announced.

What caused such decisive behavior of the mayor (who, as we remember, recently promised support to Petro Poroshenko, but in 2014, on the contrary, was an opponent of Euromaidan)?

Yes, first of all, because the newly elected President Zelensky does not have a public team in Kharkov or the region. This means that it must be recruited from at least those people who reflect the sentiments of voters who supported the winner of the recent elections in advance.

Kolomoisky’s statements in support of Avakov alerted Kernes: he not only suspects the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of an assassination attempt, after which he found himself confined to a wheelchair, but also knows very well that for a long time the minister sponsored nationalists and simply destructive individuals.

For some time, Avakov managed to avoid speaking on humanitarian topics, and it was necessary to make his fan club bark. After all, it is clear how the Avakov sewer will react and, thereby, once again contrast itself with the majority of the townspeople.

And the mayor was not mistaken. They, in a noisy crowd with Bandera symbols, rushed to support the tent and even tried to wash it.

It would seem that the matter is deeply internal to the city: the townspeople proposed it, the mayor elected by the absolute majority of Kharkov residents supported it... But it’s not so simple. All the power of the state and the representatives of a non-traditional political orientation supporting it was demonstrated in defense of the homeless shaman and the right of officials appointed from Kiev to disfigure the city map (the name of the marshal was erased, let me remind you, not by the decision of the city council, but by order of the governor).

Vyatrovich began to threaten the mayor with imprisonment, the vice-speaker promised to hold her parliamentary reception in the tent, and the deputy from the “Humanity” faction declared this self-construction his reception room and began to practice self-help there in front of the whole people.

“Activists have permission to hold an action on Freedom Square from January 1 to December 31, 2019,” said Valeriy Sokurenko, head of the Main Police Department in the Kharkov region.

According to the chief police officer of the region, the tent can only be demolished by a court decision. “According to the instructions of the municipal service, it is impossible to demolish this tent. This will not be allowed. And the protest format can be in any form, even in the form of a tent,” Sokurenko said.

Thus, Avakov’s department sided with outright violators of law and order.

Deputy head of the regional state administration appointed from Kyiv, Mikhail Chernyak, said that the issue of placing a tent on Freedom Square in Kharkov should be decided by the court, and now it has been taken under the protection of security forces.

They also threatened from the prosecutor's office. “If the court in Kharkov decides to demolish the “Everything for Victory” tent on Freedom Square, the prosecutor’s office will immediately file an appeal,” said Kharkov region prosecutor Yuriy Danilchenko.

“You don’t need a court decision to demolish a tent on Freedom Square,” said Yuriy Sidorenko, director of the department of information and public relations of the Kharkiv City Council, on May 13. He explained that local authorities have the right to make their own decisions on the demolition of certain illegally installed objects.

Sidorenko recalled that at first the “activists” were asked to remove the tent voluntarily. If this does not happen, the executive committee of the city council will consider the issue. If the decision is made to demolish the tent, the question of how exactly to do it will be decided. But these will be only legal methods.

Sidorenko also drew attention to the fact that since 2015, the conciliation commission of the City Council has not received any statements about holding an action in the square from the “activists” who set up a tent. This circumstance allows us to consider the tent an illegally erected structure.

He emphasized that the city council is ready to accept an application from “activists” to hold the action. When it arrives, the conciliation commission will consider the question of where, when and for how long to erect a tent in Kharkov.

Sidorenko said this, already having a regulatory document at hand. The corresponding order was published on May 11 on the city hall website in section "Ads". It says that the tent must be dismantled voluntarily within three days, until May 14. The order was signed by the head of the Parking Inspectorate of the Department of Territorial Control, Andrey Garkushin. If the tent is not removed, it will be dismantled by decision of the executive committee of the city council.

However, already on May 13, the tent was surrounded by a fence with the symbols of the heating network - the same one that is used during repair work.

PolitNavigator will monitor how the epic with Bandera’s patch in the center of Kharkov ends.
