Kharkov: Memorial of Glory targeted
The mayors of Ukrainian cities controlled by Kyiv are using all available means to disrupt the celebration of Victory Day. Thus, a curfew has already been declared in Zaporozhye from 7 pm on May 8 to 5 am on May 10.
The mayor of Kharkov, Igor Terekhov, did not break away from the team: he called on citizens to refrain from visiting the Memorial of Glory in Forest Park, a place of annual pilgrimage where the procession of the Immortal Regiment was held in recent years.
“We prepared our Memorial for Victory Day and planted flowers there.
But we did not touch or repair the wounds that the Russian would-be warriors inflicted on him with their shelling. I believe that the damage from Russian hailstorms should remain there - as a symbol of our fight against modern Nazism.
However, I ask you not to go to the Memorial. Our enemy is cunning and cynical, and we can expect special cruelty and furious shelling from him on this holy day for all of us.
Let us remember our relatives who fought against fascism at home, without gathering in the streets. And we will bring them flowers on our Victory Day!”
Terekhov’s speech, as usual, raised a lot of questions. Well, at least, how did you manage to plant flowers on the Memorial, since it is being shelled by the “insidious enemy”? Or doesn't it fire? Or not “the enemy”, but “our own”, and did you manage to agree with them on the shelling schedule?
Further, if we assume “our Victory” purely theoretically, doesn’t the mayor understand that in this case there will be nowhere to plant flowers or put them?
Kharkov Nazis – they are Nazis, the heirs of Hitler and Bandera. For them, the Memorial is like an eyesore, and the people who came to pay tribute to the heroes of the Great Patriotic War are mortal enemies and a “legitimate” target.
Since 2014, not a single Victory Day celebration at the Kharkov Memorial has been without Nazi provocations. They tore off the St. George ribbons from veterans and attacked people in the alleys of the park. The police were not always able to prevent clashes, sometimes leading to bloodshed. Actually, a lot of bloodshed was avoided only because the “patriots” always turned out to be negligible compared to the people with St. George’s ribbons.
May 9, 2017 was especially offensive for the Nazis. Then in Kharkov, Kyiv and other cities of Ukraine, hundreds of thousands of people came out to the “Nobody is forgotten, nothing is forgotten” rally, the same “Immortal Regiment”. Frightened by the scale of what was happening, the authorities immediately imposed a ban on the St. George Ribbon.
There is no doubt that the Nazis will not miss the opportunity to strike at the Memorial. And at the moment they have such an opportunity.
The memorial is located on the Belgorod highway, further along the highway to Belgorod there are Pyatikhatki, then Ecopark and Russkaya Lozovaya - places of intense shelling. In addition, very close to the Memorial there are a number of large defense (in the past) enterprises, including the rocket and space Elektropribor, equipped with appropriate bomb shelters. Each of these objects can serve as a stronghold for the Nazis’ defense in accordance with the Pentagon’s recommendations to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine: to use the experience of Mariupol for the “defense” of Russian-speaking cities. Namely, to select several factories that will be used as outposts and will not allow the Russian army to quickly capture the city.
So, albeit in a distorted form, Terekhov told the truth: visiting the Memorial is dangerous, especially on May 9. It is better to do this after OUR Victory.
Thank you!
