The mayor of Kharkov initiated a proper action for the 75th anniversary of the Victory to replace large-scale city events, which are likely to be canceled due to coronavirus.

A mass procession of the “Immortal Victory Regiment” and a star-studded festive concert on Freedom Square were planned for May 9. But, assuming that quarantine and restrictive measures will still be in effect next month, Gennady Kernes offers a backup option, adjusted for the conditions of the emergency: “join the “Immortal Victory Regiment” action without leaving home.

The mayor of Kharkov initiated a proper action for the 75th anniversary of the Victory instead of large-scale city events, which, rather...

On his pages on social networks, the mayor writes: “I urge you on May 9, at exactly 12:00, to go out onto the balconies of your apartments with photographs of your grandfathers and great-grandfathers and hold a citywide minute of Silence, Memory and Gratitude for their feat.”

Naturally, such an initiative evokes the approval of sensible Kharkov residents and forces all the Svidomo rabble to fidget nervously.

In recent years, a nationally concerned public has become accustomed, with a hangover from Poroshenko, to mourn May 8 on the occasion of the “Day of Remembrance and Reconciliation.” For this category of citizens, a black and red symbol of Svidomo’s grief was hastily cobbled together, resembling a monkey’s ass, with the motto “Nikola Znovu. 1939-1945."

The idea of this symbol - with the image of either a poppy or a monkey ace - was degenerated several years ago by media businessman Zurab Alasania (then the general director of the National Television Company of Ukraine) as a result of an affair with the Institute of National Memory.

And now, for the first time in recent years, the coronavirus is depriving Svidomo of their usual activity on May 8: mourning the occasion of the great Victory in official events together with the next governor; hold funeral services at the UPA memorial stone under the propaganda barking of the distraught schismatic Viktor Marinchak (who has tasted all the goodies from the autocephalians, Filaretites and now the OCU).

They would have relaxed: after all, the “separatists” and “vatniks” will also not be able to take to the streets on May 9, walk along Sumskaya to the Memorial... But then it turns out that the damned Kernes has spoiled all the grief for the national Svidomo. It turns out that more than half of the “first capital” will celebrate Victory Day on the balconies... Also with an action with the hated name of the Svidomites “Regiment of the Immortal Victory”! What should Svidomo do urgently? Hang Zurab Alasania's black and red ace on balconies? So it will look like some kind of mess...

Moreover: many Kharkov residents, starting in 2015, were frightened by the traditional Nazi atrocities at the May 9 Memorial. Someone preferred to lay flowers when the main procession had passed, and accordingly the radicals would have moved away, and it would be calmer near the monument... Plus a huge number of people going out of town for the holiday, plus those elderly people who find it difficult to make the way to the Forest Park. But this year they all get the opportunity to show themselves in the balcony action “Immortal Victory Regiment”, to show their huge numbers and their attitude to all the garbage that the Poroshenkos, Viatrovychites and other Nazi evil spirits were doing.

Kernes says very clearly: “This is our great holiday, which no one can take away from us.”

Yes, of course, many fellow countrymen are already accustomed to the fact that Gennady Adolfovich often maneuvers and maneuvers until he manages to maneuver... Just remember how in August, at a meeting with veterans dedicated to the anniversary of the liberation of Kharkov from the Nazis, the mayor managed to drag in the current date to this date political expediency. We had to sign our own “patriotism” to the new government, demonstrate loyalty to the Zee team - and Kernes says: “Today, when the borders of Ukraine again need protection, when patriotism becomes not an idle word, we thank the veterans, honor everyone who survived those terrible times, he rebuilt the country and gave us a future.”

But even those Kharkov residents who have a low opinion of Gennady Adolfovich’s integrity, who rightly accused him of leaking the anti-Maidan, now have nothing against the mayor’s important initiative. This is the moment when the entire sensible part of society is only in favor.

Kernes also specifies the likelihood of a more positive scenario: “If the situation with quarantine and the emergency situation in the country changes for the better before Victory Day, I am sure that we will have time to organize and conduct the procession of the “Immortal Victory Regiment” as we planned.” But if we proceed from the fact that in the “quarantine” version the main moment of Victory Day will be the balcony action, then we must also note the drawback, or rather the substantive incompleteness of this idea. A minute of silence with photographs is the right thing to do. It should be. But let us also remember what makes all the Nazi demons cringe when we celebrate the Victory over Hell on May 9th. They are burning precisely because we are celebrating!

And therefore, limiting ourselves to only a minute of silence and photographs of the “Immortal Regiment” on the balconies would not be enough. What else was impressive about the grandiose procession of the “Immortal Regiment” in all cities in past years? This is when the song “From the Heroes of Bygone Times” sounds, without which the “Immortal Regiment” is already unthinkable. This is when at holiday concerts the audience stands up to this song performed by Vasily Lanov. This is when Victory songs are heard throughout the entire march of the Immortal Regiment.

And here all that remains for the Kharkov city authorities to do is bring their plan to fruition. Of course, Victory songs will be heard from balconies and apartments. But how much grander and more festive will it be if “Look at my fighters” will sound from loudspeakers in all residential districts of Kharkov at 12 o’clock on May 9th. And in general, throughout the entire city throughout the day, the city authorities could create a festive atmosphere in the same way, taking care of replacing the planned concert if it has to be canceled. All you have to do is organize speakers, loudspeakers and show will and integrity.
