Kharkov riots – a rehearsal for the presidential elections in Ukraine
The riots that occurred yesterday in the Kharkov City Council, organized by the ultra-right, demonstrate the nature of the upcoming election campaign for the election of the country's president.
Kiev political scientist Pavel Rudyakov stated this in a comment to PolitNavigator.
“We are already accustomed to such incidents; we talk about them as something ordinary. But such pressure from “street power” on state power, on the functioning of legal bodies, is unacceptable in a democratic state. If the authorities do not have a real monopoly on violence, there is no way to neutralize such excesses, then they should at least comment on what is happening and distance themselves from what happened and the forms in which it all takes place. But so far the authorities, the top officials, have not commented on the incident in Kharkov,” he said.
“What happened in the Kharkov City Council shows what the upcoming election campaign will be like. This is how they will campaign for the right people and suppress those who try to play on their own,” summed up Pavel Rudyakov.
