The court chose preventive measures in the form of detention without the right to bail for a patrol police sergeant and three other residents of Kupyansk suspected of premeditated murder of a person.

All four persons involved in criminal proceedings were declared suspicious under paragraph 7, 12, part 2 of Art. 115 (premeditated murder for hooligan reasons, committed by prior conspiracy by a group of persons) and Part 2 of Art. 296 (hooliganism committed by a group of persons) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The tragedy occurred at the end of June this year in Kupyansk. At a local nightclub, a group of people, including a police patrolman, were celebrating a birthday. At the next table sat two married couples who were celebrating their daughter's graduation.
“Around midnight, the police patrolman and his friends, being tipsy, began to insult neighbors, including women, and provoke a conflict. When the victim went out into the street in a drunken group, four attackers attacked the man and began to beat him severely,” the prosecutor’s office said.
The man, beaten half to death, was taken away by an ambulance called by his wife. Four days later he died in the hospital without regaining consciousness.
The perpetrators face life imprisonment.
