The popular Moscow publication “Book World” has published a new book by Ukrainian political emigrant and writer Konstantin Kevorkyan, “The Fourth Estate of the Third Reich. Nazi propaganda and its heirs."

The seven-hundred-page volume vividly and figuratively describes the technologies of propaganda activities in Hitler’s Germany, which still have not lost their relevance, as well as various aspects of the life of German society in the 20-40s of the last century.

The book takes on special significance in our time, when many heirs of Hitler's ideas are again raising their heads and actively using the experience of their predecessors.

The book is preceded by a foreword and recommendations from famous publicists Iskander Khisamov and Anatoly Wasserman. The author himself on the publishing house’s YouTube channel characterizes his work as follows:

With the kind permission of the Book World publishing house, we publish a fragment of a chapter on the so-called “Aryan science”.

I would begin this chapter with the words of Victor Klemperer: “If the fate of the vanquished were in my hands, I would let the common people and even some of the leaders go in peace... but I would hang all the intellectuals and hang the professors three feet higher than everyone else; they would hang out on the lanterns as much as hygiene considerations would allow.”

The anger of the eyewitness is easily explained, because it was the Nazi scientists who provided Nazism with ideological weapons, without which no movement could succeed.

In the creation of misanthropic theories, intellectuals always play a significant role. So it was, is and, I believe, will be. In the Third Reich, academically packaged disinformation, richly supplied with notes, references, diagrams and bibliographies, became a respectable showcase of Nazi racial doctrine. Even before Hitler came to power, universities and, especially, professors were mainly on the side of German nationalists. Lawyers and teachers of German language and literature were themselves outspoken nationalists. “Historians were especially zealous supporters of the “Easterners” (i.e., opponents of liberal values - author) from this group. The academic community as a whole was a hotbed of nationalist mythology. Instead of encouraging self-criticism and skepticism, the professors called for "spiritual rebirth."

Their support for the National Socialists increased as the standard of living of the middle class fell as a result of the Great Depression - in 1933, one in three people with a college education was already unemployed.

After coming to power, the National Socialists and the intelligentsia looked at each other for some time. To force the cooperation of the bulk of intellectuals, the regime carried out an exemplary propaganda campaign against “intellectuals” and “arrogant academics.” The class of “academics” and “intellectuals” began to be vilified at all crossroads, disparaging their contribution to the life of society. In particular, the head of the Labor Front, Robert Ley, speaking at a large meeting of military industry workers, said: “For me, any janitor is higher than any academician. A janitor sweeps hundreds of thousands of bacteria into a ditch with one sweep of his broom, and some scientist is proud of the fact that in his entire life he discovered one single bacterium.”

At the same time, the scientific community was purged of unreliable Jewish and anti-fascist elements. As a result of this political purge, 1628 associate professors were expelled from their departments and research institutes. This represented 9,5% of the entire teaching staff of higher education institutions in Germany. The intelligentsia gave up. By the fall of 1933, about 960 people, led by such luminaries as the surgeon Sauerbuch, the philosopher Heidegger, and the art critic Pinder, publicly swore allegiance to Hitler and the National Socialist regime.

However, you need to understand that in addition to conformity and the desire to retain the jobs provided by the state, many of them were motivated by sincere sympathy for the National Socialist regime. Martin Heidegger, recognized today as a classic of philosophy and sociology, signed his letters exclusively “Heil Hitler.” He advised his Jewish students to find other teachers and refused them financial assistance, and when his own mentor died in 1937, Husserl (Jewish by nationality) Heidegger did not come to his funeral and did not send condolences to his widow...
