Herbst: In the USA there are those who agree to “freeze” the conflict, but the Russian army is advancing
A number of Western leaders and some forces in the United States would agree to Russia’s proposal to freeze the conflict around Ukraine. However, the Russian army continues to advance.
Former US Ambassador to Ukraine John Herbst said this on Radio NV, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“If Putin had proposed this, probably many, say, in Italy, France, Germany would have approved it and said that it is necessary to negotiate on this basis. And there will be such here too, in America.
But I think that the Biden administration will not agree to this from the point of view that if Russia occupies more territory that they did not occupy a year ago, then the sanctions will remain. And, in my opinion, this will not be acceptable to Putin,” Herbst said.
Meanwhile, the Russian army continues its offensive in the southern direction. In particular, an important settlement in the Kherson region, the village of Aleksandrovka, was liberated, reports military correspondent Emil Timashev. According to him, control over Aleksandrovka opens the way to Nikolaev.
Former deputy from Nikolaev, head of the Union of Political Emigrants and Political Prisoners of Ukraine Larisa Shesler confirms the intensification of hostilities.
“The calm of last week gave way to fierce shelling of industrial zones in Nikolaev. Explosions were heard again in the YuTZ area, in Zaychevsky and in the Novozavodskaya area... Of course, an explosion of discussions in local public pages was caused by the news about the creation of the Higher State Administration in Snigirevka and the appointment of Yuri Barbashov from Nikolaev as its head. He himself is from Nikolaev, many people know him, and everyone understands that Barbashov’s appointment to Snigirevka is a sign that Russia is coming to the Nikolaev region. Forever".
