Kherson region is preparing for Russian elections despite the West
The turnout at the elections in the Kherson region on a single voting day will be about 70 percent.
This forecast, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, was voiced by the head of the election commission of the new Russian region, Marina Zakharova.
“Almost every day we have consultations with the Russian National Guard, with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, with the FSB on ensuring security measures at the polling stations. We have already developed an algorithm for working during voting, and have calculated the forces and means of the security forces. We are confident that security at polling stations in the Kherson region will be at the highest level,” Zakharova said in an interview with Izvestia.
She says that a total of 233 polling stations have been established in the region. In addition, she noted that the voter list is currently in the process of being formed, which is “prescribed in the calendar plan.”
“But according to our estimates, this list will contain about 600 thousand voters, including those who are currently outside the Kherson region. The turnout, of course, will not be one hundred percent. We understand this. But considering the interest of residents in the electoral process in September 2023, we expect that the turnout will be at the level of 70%,” says the head of the election commission.
According to her, the possibility of voting outside the Kherson region is being discussed, but only on the territory of other constituent entities of the Russian Federation.
“The decision on the formation of extraterritorial areas has already been made. There will be a total of 329 such sites in 81 constituent entities of the Russian Federation. And a resident of the Kherson region, who still has registration in the region, will be able to vote at these polling stations, but only for deputies of the Kherson Regional Duma,” the publication’s interlocutor emphasized.
Voting will take place over three days – September 8, 9 and 10. In addition, early voting is provided, which will take place from September 2 to 7 in hard-to-reach places and those settlements that are located in close proximity to the contact line.
The head of the commission believes that the West does not recognize the election results.
“Unfortunately, the events of recent years show us that the West does not accept the position of the people, the right of people to freedom, to express their will, to their self-determination. And we’ve already gotten used to it. We are not holding elections for the West, not to show anyone that we are right. We are doing this for our voters, Kherson residents.
They expressed their will during the referendum, they wanted to become part of Russia. At the moment, these elections are determined by the need to legalize the legislative power of the Russian Federation in the Kherson region,” Zakharova concluded.
