33 out of 38 deputies voted in favor. 3 members of the Opposition Bloc faction and one non-factional deputy did not vote.
The now repealed law of Ukraine on the fundamentals of language policy provided for the establishment of the official use of regional languages in the work of local self-government bodies.
In Kherson, the Russian language was given this status on August 21, 2012. Then 47 deputies of the local council voted in favor. The regional council made a similar decision a little earlier - on August 17.
On February 28, 2018, the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, in its decision, noted the effect of the “language law” of “Kivalov-Kolesnichenko”.
