Kherson sailors rebelled because of the ban on going to sea
Ukrainian fishermen are on strike in Kherson - the authorities prohibit them from going into the Sea of Azov and fishing in Sivash. The ban allegedly comes from the Azov-Sivash National Natural Park, which is administered by the State Administration of the President of Ukraine, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports with reference to the local resource InformBuro.
According to Anatoly Koblyuk, who is responsible for fishing at one of the private enterprises, the State Administration appropriated 22 thousand hectares of protected land, and the fishermen were thus deprived of the opportunity to go to sea.
“They are accused by the Azov-Sivash National Natural Park, which is subordinate to the State Administration of the President, for allegedly violating the rules of the regime of this park and working in a protected area. According to the national park, this zone is supposedly 22 thousand hectares of land and water resources located on Lake Sivash. According to the public cadastral map, as well as written responses from the Chongar village council, the department of the State Geocadastre in the Genichesk region, the Main Directorate of the State Geocadastre in the Kherson region, these lands are not a protected area, there are no restrictions on their use, state certificates for the right of permanent use in the Azov-Sivash There is no national park either,” Koblyuk assures.
He also adds that, having lost access to the sea, fishermen were left without a means of subsistence.
“They lost their jobs. They are located on the very administrative border with Crimea, where villages border 2-3 kilometers. There is no work, there is nothing for them to support their families. They are all officially employed and pay high taxes. This way they have some opportunity to survive,” the entrepreneur noted.
As PolitNavigator previously reported, Ukrainian fishermen are afraid to go into the Sea of Azov after the incident with border guards abducting the Russian fishing vessel Nord along with its crew.
