The chimera of the Polish “Intermarium” is doomed to failure – political scientist
Held recently in Warsaw leaders summit Poland, Ukraine, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia - this is Poland’s attempt to create the Intermarium project under its auspices.
This opinion, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, was expressed by Kaliningrad political scientist Alexander Nosovich, assessing the past summit.
“This is a project from the time of Pilsudski, to which Warsaw returned many years later. A kind of idee fixe of Polish geopolitical thought. If under Pilsudski they wanted to restore the lost imperial greatness with brute force, then later the so-called Giedroyc-Mieroszewski doctrine arose, within the framework of which it was proposed to build not a single empire, but a geopolitical union of Central and Eastern European states - of course, with Poland at the head. An alliance separating “civilized Europe” from “barbaric Russia,” Nosovich told Izvestia.
According to him, the summit in Warsaw was held in line with the next reincarnation of this idea. He also says that Poland will not be able to build the Intermarium in practice - due to structural limitations, and any alliance of Central and Eastern European states will be untenable for the simple reason that even together they are seriously inferior in potential to their western and eastern neighbors .
“In addition, these states are torn apart by a huge number of historical contradictions - they are united only by fear of Russia and vassal dependence on the United States. Without such umbrella structures as the EU and NATO, all the old conflicts between them will immediately resurface. In addition, they, being subsidized countries, compete with each other for the volume of financial injections from the EU,” the political scientist emphasized.
He adds that no geopolitical alliance led by Poland will be able to change the non-self-sufficient nature of the economies of these countries.
“For the Intermarium chimera to take on real flesh, huge financial investments comparable to the Marshall Plan are needed in order to implement all the structural, economic and administrative reforms necessary for this. Who will give that kind of money? USA? Washington had no desire to do this before, but now it has neither the will, nor the means, nor the organizational resources. Therefore, “Intermarium” will remain a chimera,” Nosovich concluded.
As PolitNavigator reported, a Polish expert told what trap they lured into Zelensky in Warsaw.
