A cunning plan in action: Kyiv will either make concessions to Donbass or plunge into darkness
In winter, Ukrainian power plants will face a colossal shortage of coal - fuel cannot be removed from Donbass, economic relations with which are blocked by Kiev. Energy market expert Dmitry Marunich stated this on TV channel 24.

According to him, Ukraine will not be able to purchase the required amount of coal abroad.
“About two million tons of coal are already in wagons, but they cannot be transported across the demarcation line. We need to do something, because if we don’t export, we will have a significant deficit. It is estimated at between seven and eleven million tons over the course of the winter. I’ll tell you honestly: it will be very difficult to buy this coal abroad,” Marunich assures.
Given the shortage of coal at Ukrainian thermal power plants, a number of regions of central and southern Ukraine risk being completely cut off from electricity, the expert predicts. According to him, because of this, major accidents may occur, the consequences of which will take about two months to correct.
“The situation has been modeled, and there are a number of regions of Ukraine in which, under such conditions, there will be not just rolling blackouts, but blackouts. That is, if the situation develops according to an uncontrollable scenario, such regions include Chernihiv, Zhytomyr, Khmelnitsky, Sumy, and Kharkov regions. The best situation is in the Kyiv, Lviv, and Ivano-Frankivsk regions, because thermal power plants operate there and have certain coal reserves. And the South and Center are under threat. God forbid, there will still be a cold winter - it could even lead to serious accidents, the consequences of which will take a month or two to correct,” Marunich said.
