Sly Poroshenko: The President’s performance in the Verkhovna Rada was seen through in 5 minutes
Kyiv, January 16 (PolitNavigator, Mikhail Ryabov) – Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Vladimir Groysman announced that President Petro Poroshenko has introduced into parliament the abolition of immunity for deputies and judges, which has been promised by the authorities for many years now.
This PR gesture is timed to coincide with the anniversary of the events of January 16, 2014. Exactly a year ago, the Verkhovna Rada adopted “Yanukovych’s dictatorial laws.” They provoked an escalation of the confrontation in the center of Kyiv, the beginning of large-scale bloodshed, which ultimately resulted in the overthrow of the then president.
It is obvious that Poroshenko is trying to demonstrate his difference from his predecessors. However, in reality, the abolition of the immunity of deputies is a trick, says deputy Borislav Bereza.

“The height of hypocrisy is to propose lifting immunity from everyone except the president. Was it President Yanukovych or the parliament who shot Maidan? Did President Yanukovych or parliament usurp power? So why does this position remain untouchable? Or is it still so important to “bury” the last independent deputies?” - Bereza is indignant.
“But the most disgusting thing is that my parliamentary colleagues are smiling about this. They understand how they will deceive the people. According to the procedure, there must be two hearings. The first time they will get votes. But then we will see an alternative bill. And the voices were kind of divided. And each deputy will assure his voter that he voted, but it is not his fault that the law did not get votes. And for changes to the constitution, 300 votes are needed,” the parliamentarian explains the essence of Poroshenko’s idea.
