Khodakovsky explained why Russia does not annex Donbass
Russia is unlikely to include the Donbass republics in its composition in the near future, since this would require excessive budget expenditures, says former head of the DPR Security Council Alexander Khodakovsky.
“There will be no accession to Russia in the near future. While there is hope at the top that the Ukrainian card can be played differently, they will delay our accession and even recognition.
In addition, even if Russia now completely takes us on its balance sheet, it will still be many times cheaper than accepting us into its membership. Our pensions are several times lower than Russian ones, salaries are meager even in comparison with small Russian ones. Compare, for those who are not familiar: a mine worker on the surface receives up to five thousand rubles, underground on average ten,” Khodakovsky wrote in his blog.
He also noted that now “the option of uniting the republics into one whole is being considered, but this is at the tactical level.”
