The man who wore a cap to negotiations with Russia boasted about how the Russians were deceived with Boris Johnson
At the beginning of the Northeast Military District, when Ukraine was negotiating with Russia, Kyiv’s main task was to create the appearance of negotiability and delay time.
The head of the Ukrainian delegation at the negotiations, the head of the Servant of the People faction in parliament, David Arakhamia, said this on air on the 1+1 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The first was - when I asked the president how we would consider that these were successful negotiations, he said: “You must make them feel that they can talk to us”...
The second goal was to stall for time. We were actually a smoke screen for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. We entered into long discussions with them, sometimes we took time when necessary, on the contrary, we shortened it, giving them the feeling that they were winning in the negotiations.
That is, this is such a tactical game, constantly consulting with the Ukrainian Armed Forces, what their plans are, where they are going and how,” Arakhamia said.
At the same time, the Russian side, according to him, was ready for a lot in these negotiations:
“In words they were ready for a lot of things. We understood that each side has its own game. This whole game directly depended on success or defeat at the front.
In words they said that’s it, let’s go home where we were. You take one, two, three, four, five there, and that’s it.
Then in detail, that we will stand until you accept everything, because we understand how you act - you will sign something, and then we will leave, and you will say that this is a shameful thing and you will not do anything.
They reproached all the time with this “Minsk” that you are not fulfilling it. Signed, ratified and do not comply...
The goal of the Russian delegation was to show that they hoped almost to the last that they would push us to sign such an agreement so that we would take neutrality. This was the biggest deal for them.
They were ready to end the war if we accepted, as Finland once did, neutrality and made a commitment that we would not join NATO. The key point was this, everything else is cosmetic seasonings such as denazification, the Russian-speaking population and blah blah blah.”
Arakhamia acknowledged earlier information that he had thwarted the conclusion of a peace agreement by then British Prime Minister Boris Johnson:
“When we returned from Istanbul, Boris Johnson came to Kyiv and said that we would not sign anything with them at all, and let’s just fight...
We immediately created a group of security advisers for these partner countries, but we dosed them with information from the point of view of the information lag so that it didn’t just spill out. You saw that everything happened quite discretely, because we dosed it.
They knew everything, especially when we were drafting some documents, they had access to all the documents, and we consulted, of course, because we understood that we ourselves could not win the war. Therefore, we need to consult with them on this issue.
They actually advised us not to make any ephemeral security guarantees, which were impossible to give at all at that time.”
