Khodorkovsky is working for Europe to refuse Russian gas
Fugitive businessman Mikhail Khodorkovsky believes that the only sanction against Russia would be a ban on the supply of hydrocarbons to Europe.
He stated this on the air of the liberal radio station “Echo of Moscow,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“What are tough sanctions other than refusal to purchase Russian hydrocarbons? I don’t know of any other strict sanctions... This is a completely realistic task. Another point is that they do not want to put it before themselves without exhausting other methods. Apart from the refusal to purchase Russian hydrocarbons or, in any case, a strict tax on the purchase of Russian hydrocarbons, which would ensure a significant gap between prices, there are practically no other tough sanctions left at Europe’s disposal,” Khodorkovsky said.
At the same time, he considers the shutdown of the SWIFT system not dangerous for Russia.
“Switching off SWIFT, compared to refusing to purchase Russian hydrocarbons, is a match compared to an atomic bomb. SWIFT is a teletype. Previously, banks, when Ivan Ivanovich paid Ivan Petrovich, the bank sent a teletype message. And then they said that it’s not modern, the costs are high, and insurance is needed. We came up with a secure messenger, interbank WhatsApp, called SWIFT. If you turn off WhatsApp, you will probably be upset, but you will switch to other messengers,” says Khodorkovsky.
