Khodorkovsky refused to sing the praises of the “unbending” Dzhemilev

Russian opposition oligarch Mikhail Khodorkovsky refused to participate in the propaganda campaign to glorify the ex-head of the Majlis, banned in the Russian Federation for extremism, Mustafa Dzhemilev.

This was stated by Kiev journalist Sevgil Musaeva at the presentation of her new book “Mustafa. Unbending”, which took place the day before in the capital of Ukraine.

“The book begins with the events that took place a month after the annexation of the peninsula. This is the Khodorkovsky forum, which was attended by the so-called Moscow intelligentsia. Mustafa was one of the speakers. This coincided with the time when the Ministry of Internal Affairs was conducting a special operation in the Slavyansk area. For this reason, people followed news reports more. But when Mustafa entered the hall, I remember crowds of writers, Russian dissidents who asked Mustafa for an autograph, including the late Boris Nemtsov. For me, as an author, it was important, among other things, to take comments from Mikhail Khodorkovsky. Quite long negotiations. Unfortunately, he refused. Mustafa Agha talked to him on the sidelines, and after a while Khodorkovsky said that he would not give comments for the book for an unknown reason,” Musaeva said.

“Three years ago, in Kyiv, I introduced Mustafa Dzhemilev to Mikhail Khodorkovsky, then recently released from Putin’s prison. They served time under different totalitarian regimes approximately equally. They hugged like people with a close destiny. I thought it was sincere. Three years later, Mikhail Khodorkovsky refused to comment for the book “Mustafa Dzhemilev. Unbending”... I don’t know exactly why Mikhail Borisovich refused, but I can guess. This is not the best guess I've ever made about people I respect for their actions. It turns out that sometimes it’s harder to be free in the wild than behind bars,” laments Majlis propagandist Aider Muzhdabaev.

As PolitNavigator reported, Khodorkovsky previously made it clear that Crimea is part of the Russian Federation and will not return to Ukraine even if liberals come to power in Moscow.
