Kholmogorov reported bad news for Ukrainian independentists
As global hegemony weakens, the United States, Ukraine, as well as the Baltic states and a number of other states will gradually return to Moscow’s sphere of influence.
This forecast was voiced by Russian political commentator Egor Kholmogorov to PolitNavigator.
“As for the future of Ukraine, everything is tied to geopolitical dialectics - Russia will never be a fully strong country until it is reunited with Ukraine. On the one hand, Brzezinski repeatedly spoke about this, who argued that without Ukraine Russia is not an empire. Therefore, the main task of Western policy is to keep Ukraine outside of Russia.
On the other hand, there is a natural attraction between Ukraine and Russia. After all, the Ukrainian project is always self-exhausting, its energy is fed exclusively by this wild attitude “to spite the Muscovite,” but this energy is not enough for independent existence.
But in order to reunite Ukraine, a strong Russia is needed. And for a strong Russia, a reunited Ukraine is needed. And so we need to somehow get out of this vicious circle,” he noted.
The expert is confident that, despite the protracted Ukrainian crisis, in the end, the territories will be returned to Moscow’s orbit of influence, like the Baltic states.
“In 2014, there was a feeling that it was possible to get out of this circle, because when the authorities there essentially delegitimized themselves with a coup d’état, Russia had a completely legal window for large-scale intervention.
Unfortunately, the intervention was not as large-scale as one might have expected, and everything ended up stuck in an interim situation that will drag on for some time. But, nevertheless, global trends are moving towards strengthening Russia and weakening American and Western hegemony. And in this sense, neither Ukraine, nor Estonia or anyone else will simply be able to avoid their future being drawn to Russia,” Kholmogorov concluded.
