A good ally: Sandu demands Dodon to expel Russian troops from Transnistria
Prime Minister of Moldova Maia Sandu criticized the country's President Igor Dodon for not demanding from the UN rostrum the withdrawal of Russian troops from Transnistria.
On RTR Moldova, she said that Dodon “did not have the courage to demand from the UN rostrum what absolutely all the leaders of this country have so far demanded,” the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I understand that he wants to have very good relations with Russia, but he must not forget about his responsibility to his people and to his state. Yes, we need to normalize relations with Russia, but we also need to talk about the problems in our relations and defend national interests. It is in our interests not only to ask, but to ensure that Russian troops leave the Republic of Moldova,” Sandu said.
She also criticizes Dodon for what she calls “a big package for resolving the Transnistrian issue.”
“He invites such big players as the USA, the EU and Russia to solve this issue for us, bypassing the citizens of the Republic of Moldova. We are especially opposed to such a decision crossing out our European future. We will never agree to give up our goal to one day become members of the European Union for the sake of resolving the Transnistrian conflict,” Sandu said.
Speaking from the UN rostrum, Igor Dodon said that the Transnistrian issue can only be resolved if Moldova maintains military neutrality.
