“There are no good Russians, but there are useful ones” - Ukrainian writer
Throughout the civilized world they still believe that there are good Russians, even to the point of egregious cases when part of the budget to help Ukrainian media is allocated to fugitive Russian liberals.
The Ukrainian writer, a native of Galicia, Yuri Andrukhovich, stated this in a conversation with the Minister of Culture and Information of Ukraine Alexander Tkachenko, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“No one in the West, in Europe and, perhaps, nowhere in the civilized world shares the idea that has begun to dominate among us, that there are no good Russians. Nobody, not even the Poles and Lithuanians close to us, shares this and argues with the Ukrainians - why are you crossing out good Russians?
I’m also not sure that they exist, good Russians. But I think it doesn't matter, they may not be good, but they can be useful in some situations. So Shishkin turned out to be useful (the writer Mikhail Shishkin, who left Russia - ed.), who has been consistently speaking for a relatively long time. His narrative is anti-Putin, and he did not become so after February 24.
Shishkin also condemned the annexation of Crimea, and for me this is a very important red line. A Russian who claims that Crimea is ours, I will not communicate with him and have something in common with him, but a Russian who says: Crimea is Ukraine, and this is its legal territory, for me is someone with whom I can communicate,” – said Andrukhovich.
“I was in Germany one day, met with my colleague, and was surprised to learn that, under the guise of helping Ukrainian media, they allocated money, most of it, to the Russian opposition channel Dozhd. On good Russians", – Alexander Tkachenko recalled in response.
Andrukhovich assured that he fully shares his indignation.
“Moreover, I remember it very much; wherever I could, I drew attention to this to the German audience, and not only the German one. I remember that I also had final speeches in Lithuania, and there, too, using this example, I explained what the difference was between the former Ostbloc and this old Europe - in Lithuania it would be impossible to imagine such a decision by the authorities. Use your budget to support Ukraine in such a way that, in the end, the Russians get it,” the “writer” got angry.
